Here are some pictures taken just as the sun set in the horizon at Newcastle last night. I just love the hues and tones of the sky, along with the effects of the street lights.

The Docklands

Canary Wharf

Visited the spanking new Canary Wharf (which always reminds me of KLCC) and Greenwich (yes - where the Prime Meridian runs through). At the National Maritime Museum (which reminds me of MCKK - sprawling ground, huge white colonial edifice) there was a Tintin at Sea exhibition going on.

The sunny weather (max: 30 degrees celcius) meant that for photography it was perfect. It was nice to laze around at Greenwich - but unlike Malaysia, there are hardly any air conditioning in the UK.

Here are some pictures of my university, King's College London. Formed in 1829, and now one of the constituents of the University of London, King's is a multidiscipline institution well-known for law, medicine and war studies; amongst others.

The pictures are of the Strand Campus (the original campus) and Maughan Library in Chancery Lane nearby. The Maughan Library was a 19th century building that was only recently acquired by King's and has been critically-acclaimed for a successful restoration.

The Strand Campus itself is undergoing renovation, only to be completed in 2006 after I graduate (Insya Allah in 2005), part of a £400 million redevelopment project in King's facilities.

Brighton

Cloudy morning

I went down to Brighton yesterday - it was my first visit there after fourteen years. My sister studied in Britain and I spent some time there in 1990, and there were bits and pieces there which I could recall.

Anyhow, it was a beautiful city, and luckily, although the forecast was "partially cloudy", it choose to be cloudy only during our journey to and from Brighton! There were lots of people enjoying the summer sun!

I also found an excellent second hand and antiquarian book store, and bought "Jerusalem" by Michel Join-Lambert. It is a first edition, sent to the original owner for review (the invitation card is enclosed), published in 1958. There was another book, RH Bruce Lockhart's "Return to Malaya", about the return of a European who previously spent some years in his uncle's plantation in Malaya (and got into a scandal with a princess, it appears to be!). This time he journeyed in Malaya and some parts of Indonesia (Dutch East Indies then).

Some of the pictures were taken by Imaan.
